ASA Racing Member Track

Section 1 – Definition of Terms

1.1. Competitor – A driver, car/truck owner, mechanic, crew member or other person who is associated with any team who participates competitively in an Adirondack International Speedway racing event.

1.2. Official – Any individual appointed by the Adirondack International Speedway Management, Promoter, or Race Director to officiate as an employee or independent contractor for an event.

1.3. Event – Any event that takes place at the Adirondack International Speedway, which includes the actual on-track race event as well as all procedures of an event including but not limited to registration, inspection, qualifying races, hot-laps/warm-ups, as well as post-race inspection or postponement dates related to the originally scheduled event.

1.4. OEM – Original Equipment Manufacturer

Section 2 – Goals & Purposes 

2.1. To create an inexpensive and exciting series that will be a showcase of (1) up and coming driver desiring to step up to the ASA Challenger Late Model Series and (2) drivers who want the challenge that a high-torque, race-tire class can provide.

2.2. To have fair and consistent rules that allow for the use of either six or eight cylinder engines.

Section 3 – Eligible Cars

3.1. Eligible – Any domestic, six or eight cylinder, front engine, rear-wheel drive coupe or sedan.

3.2. Not Eligible – No convertibles, T-tops, mini-vans, or station wagons. 

Section 4 – Bodywork 

4.1. Bodywork – All bodies must be stock steel or stock appearing aluminum or plastic body only. Aftermarket Bodies (in stock appearing aluminum) are allowed, providing they look stock and match the wheelbase of the frame being used. All bodies must be mounted in stock location on frame and must maintain the OEM fit and appearance. Bodies, engines and chassis must match GM for GM, Ford for Ford and Chrysler for Chrysler. No wedge shaped bodies allowed. Officials reserve the right to reject any body or parts connecting to the body. Hood and trunk latches must be removed, and doors must be welded shut. Ground effects and/or panels of any kind are prohibited below the minimum allowable ride height of car, (See Section 5, Rule 3) at any point of the car. Fenders may be reasonably trimmed (at Officials discretion) for reason of tire clearance only. Roof, hoods and trunks must be of stock steel, aluminum, or one-piece fiberglass. All hoods and trunks must be of stock appearance and must be securely fastened with minimum of four pins; one placed at each corner of the hood and trunk. Full fendered asphalt bodies only.

May have side rub rails made of lexan or 1X2 box tube or 1 1⁄2 round ends must be capped and no sharp edges and may not protrude more than 1 inch from side of body.

4.2. Interior Bodywork - Complete steel floor pan must be used. Floor pan must resemble stock floor pan, and be located in stock location. Cock pitting can be built to height no higher than the driveshaft tunnel, with steel floor pan in place. All holes must be sealed, and the floor pan must run from front firewall to rear firewall and door-to-door. Firewall must be fabricated with minimum 20-gauge steel. Rear firewall, of 20 gauge steel, must be installed sealing fuel cell from driver’s compartment.

4.3. Spoilers, Vents, Vanes, Dams– Spoiler material no higher than 4.0” (inches) and no wider than 60.0” (inches) are permitted. OEM spoilers must fit the proper specification. All spoilers must follow the contour of the rear bodywork.

4.4. Windshield & Rear Windows, Glass – Windshield of either 1/8th” (inch).  Lexan material or wire mesh must be reinforced with one safety bar and at least two safety straps made of at least 1.0” (inch) wide steel and must be equally spaced on the inside. Rear and side windows must be removed completely and the openings must remain entirely clear, this includes no louvers. All glass, exterior lights, and trim must be removed. All openings, except that of side windows and rear window must be completely closed off from drivers compartment.

4.4. Bumpers – All cars must have stock appearing bumpers, front and rear. Bumpers may be reinforced. Outside front and rear bumper reinforcement/bracing is prohibited. All cars must have hooks for towing, in both the front and rear and may be under hood and/or trunk. Rub-rails (“nerf-bars”) are allowed and must be flush, capped, and rounded with no sharp edges. All bumpers and rub-rails must be made of hollowed tubing. Rub rail maximum size is 1/2 or 1 1/2 round

4.5. Car Numbering – All cars must be numbered with a one, two, or three digit number. To reserve/confirm your number contact the Speedway at (315) 346-7223.

Section 5 – Chassis

5.1. Frame Construction – Frame must be straight, sound, and complete. No cutting, chopping, shortening, or lowering of the frame is allowed. Unibody cars must have stock front and rear clip (or equivalent rear clip in original location) and may be connected to front clip for extra support. Wheel base must not be shorter than OEM wheel base for make and model of car.

5.2. Rollcage – The cage must be a minimum of the six-point design constructed of 1.5” (inch) OD, .090” (inch) thickness mild steel tubing and must meet the following requirements:

A. Must have gussets on fitted joints.

B. Full width dashboard is required. Top area of windshield to vertical plane of dash must be enclosed. Gauges must be mounted on a vertical panel.

C. All bars, including steering wheel and shaft, in drivers section/reach must be padded.

D. Must have a 1/8 inch steel plate welded to side door bars of roll cage on drivers side.

5.3. Ground Clearance – No part of the body, and/or chassis may extend past the lowest point of the bottom of the main frame, left or right. Frame must maintain a minimum ground clearance of 5.0” (inches). Ground clearance measurement is measured from the lowest point of the chassis and/or body, and to be taken with the fully-suited driver in the car and in normal sitting position. Measurements can be taken prior to, or following any given event. There is Zero (0) tolerance.

Section 6 – Engines

6.1. The following is prohibited:

            A. Turbo or supercharged engines

            B. Alloy blocks, SOHC, DOHC.

            C. 350 or 351 cubic-inch engines bore over .060” (inch) stock.

            D. 360 cubic-inch) engine bore over .030” (inch) stock.

            E. V-8 fuel-injected motors.

6.2. Open Engine Eligibility – Any motor up to cubic-inch bore specifications are permitted. Unless otherwise specifically stated, all engine and drive-train parts and their surfaces must remain in stock OEM configuration including, but not limited to, engine location. Maximum compression ratio for all competitors is 10.0:1.

6.3. Crate Engine Eligibility – The only sealed crate motors permitted for competition are as follows:

            A. General Motors – 350 horsepower crate engine, part # 88958602

            Crate Engines manufactured by Ford or Chrysler Corporation are not allowed.

B. Guidelines – Any team found to have tampered with any engine seals will be subject to disqualification from the event, loss of all points, suspension, and/or other penalties issued from the Track Management and Track Officials. Any seals that in the judgment of the Track Officials have been tampered with and/or altered will result in the engine being declared ineligible for competition from that point forward. Track officials may impound the ineligible engine for further inspection. All teams using the specified sealed crate motor must have, in their possession, the factory spec sheet for their crate motor. Failure to provide this sheet upon technical inspection will result in disqualification. All crate motors, like that of an “open engine” are subject to technical inspection at any time as requested by Authorized Adirondack International Speedway technical inspectors, and must meet the specifications as stated on the Factory Spec sheet supplied by the team. All Section 6 rules below apply to all Crate Engines, with an exception to stock factory specifications or unless otherwise noted.

6.4. Cams, Rockers, Pistons Flat tappet cam is mandatory. No roller cams allowed. Any steel or aluminum rocker arms and rocker arm studs are allowed. No jesel type rockers allowed. Pistons must be flat or dished maintaining OEM stock specifications.

6.5. Crankshaft – Crankshaft must be stock stroke. Only stock production crankshafts may be used. Standard steel or cast iron only. Aftermarket cranks must be identical to stock in appearance, construction, weight and journal size. Counter weights must be the same size and shape of OEM. Countershafts may not be knife edged, under cut or altered in any way. Normal balancing only. Minimum crankshaft weight is 48.0 pounds. No painting, coating or plating of any kind.

6.6. Carburetor – Carburetor limited to one (1) stock 4412 Holley 500 CFM two (2) barrel. No alterations allowed with only the exception to the removal of the choke plate. Carburetor must be mounted in stock configuration. The top (carb side) and the bottom (manifold side) must be parallel. No wedge shape allowed. Port hole(s) must be vertical to the top and bottom (90-degrees). No beveling, tapering, grooving, flaring, or radius’ of port hole(s). Port hole(s) must be the same size and shape at the top and bottom with no additional holes or channels that will allow air to enter the engine. No spacers allowed. Air cleaners are mandatory and must remain under the hood.  Must have two throttle return springs. For the eligible sealed crate engine, a two barrel adapter must be used to allow use of mandatory stock 4412 Holley 500 CFM two (2) barrel carburetor.

6.7. Intake Manifold and Heads– Intake Manifolds, Throttle Bodies, and ports must have stock inner-working surfaces. They may not be modified, enlarged, or polished in any way shape or form. Intake must be a production dual plane intake for make of car, an aftermarket (After market means it was not available on make of vehicle from factory) dual plane no air gap intake may be used but must add 50 lbs.  Maximum 1” spacer or 4 bbl.to 2 bbl. Adapter. Intake must have straight cut holes. Heads must be OEM NO AFTERMARKET.

6.8. Exhaust – Exhaust manifolds must be OEM or OEM replacement. Headers are permitted. Crossover/Wrap-around permitted. No 180-degree, step, or 2-into-1 headers allowed. Maximum collector size of 3.0" inches. No coating of any type on or in headers. All exhaust pipes must exit behind the driver and may not route through the drivers compartment.

6.9. Oil System – Must have wet-sump oil pan. No Dry Sump Oil systems or aluminum pans allowed.

610. Ignition – Must have 12V OEM stock ignition and starting system. May use any starter in working condition.

6.11. Cooling System – Any electrical or clutch-type mechanical fan with a fan shroud may be used with the radiator located in the original OEM location. All cooling systems must have a one-quart minimum overflow tank under the hood. Overflow must blow on lower right quarter of windshield. No anti-freeze allowed liquid cool is permitted.

6.12. Batteries – Batteries must be located in the engine compartment or trunk area. Batteries are prohibited in the drivers compartment. All batteries must be securely fastened and sealed with a 20-gauge steel box. All cars must have an electrical system (and fuel system) shut-off switch that must be located within the drivers and safety crews reach and clearly marked “On” and “Off”.

Section 7 – Running Gear

7.1. Clutches – Must use an OEM stock steel external clutch.

7.2. Flywheel – Must use OEM stock steel flywheel with starter ring. No lightweight, altered, or modified drive train parts or fasteners are allowed. Must be bolted too and turn positive with the crankshaft.

7.3. Transmissions – OEM or aftermarket transmissions are allowed, in stock condition only. All transmissions must be manufactured by General Motors, Ford Motor Company, or Chrysler Corporation only. All forward gears and reverse gear must work. Automatic transmissions must have unaltered torque converter and flexplate. Bellhousing must be of steel only.

7.4. Driveshaft – Must have stock steel driveshafts only. Driveshaft must be painted white and be encased with two steel guard loops. Steel guard loops must be sized at a minimum of 0.25” (inch) x 1.5” (inches) and located 6.0” (inches) from each universal joint.

7.5. Rearends Rear-ends must be stock and of stock width. Ford 9” (inch) rear-ends are permitted in all eligible makes and models. Must have safely mounted OEM rear end only. Limited slip differentials, either locked, unlocked, No Lockers. No offset, cambered, or quick change rear-ends allowed.

7.6. Brakes – Stock four-wheel hydraulic brakes are required in good working condition. Dual master cylinders allowed, no adjustment in drivers compartment. No shutoffs all four brakes must work at all times.

7.7 Suspension – Must use OEM stock, stock equivalent aftermarket replacement parts. Tubular upper arms permitted must maintain in stock location. Upper A arms may be different lengths but may not be adjustable. Lower A frames must be stock. Jacking bolts are allowed. Sway bars and bushings may be changed.

A. Shock Absorbers: One steel shock per wheel must be used. Rear shocks may be relocated, front may be moved to allow for jacking

bolt. No adjustable, No aluminum, No air, No coilover shocks permitted. Shock must be any OEM type shock that will mount in stock mounting

position. Adapters may be used only for reason of relocating shock mount to allow for jacking bolt.

7.8. Steering – Steering column must be in OEM stock location. Quick release steering wheels are mandatory. Steering shaft and steering wheel center must be padded and must have two U-joints. Must have stock steering for make and model of car. No modifications are allowed including but not limited to steering quickeners. May run cambered front-end only.

Section 8 – Weight

8.1. Six Cylinder Engines – All carbureted six (6) cylinder engines must weigh a minimum of 2,800 lbs. (pounds). There is no tolerance and all weights will be taken with fully-suited driver in car, race ready.

8.2. Eight Cylinder Engines – All carbureted eight (8) cylinder engines must weigh a minimum of 3,100 lbs. (pounds). There is no tolerance and all weights will be taken with fully-suited driver in car, race ready.

8.3. Fuel-Injected Engines – All fuel-injected engines must weigh an additional 100 lbs. (pounds) over those listed above.

8.4. Left-side weight – All cars must maintain a maximum left side weight of 54.0% at all times. There is no tolerance and left-side weight will be taken with fully suited driver, in car, and race ready.

8.5. Restrictions – No changes may be done, and no fuel can be added to the car prior or after being weighed, for reason of making weight.

Section 9 – Wheels & Tires

9.1. Tires – All competitors are required to use the Hoosier 890 tire as supplied by the Adirondack International Speedway. Tires may not be altered, modified, or grinded in any way shape or form.

9.2. Wheels – Reinforced stock steel wheels, aftermarket steel wheels such as Bart, Bassett, Diamond or equivalent may be used at a maximum width of 8” (inches). 2” or 3” or 4”(inch) offsetting is permitted. 1” (inch) lug nuts must be used on all four wheels and the studs must be flush or extend beyond the lug nut. No dual-air valves, bleeders, spacers, wheel weights, or hubcaps allowed.

Section 10 – Fuel System

10.1. Fuel Cells – An approved twenty-two gallon maximum capacity fuel cell is mandatory. All fuel cells, at any and all times must carry no more than 12 gallons of fuel. Cells must be centered on the chassis and entirely located a minimum of 10” (inches) off the ground. Cells must be protected in its entirety by a 20-gauge steel box.

10.2. Fuel System – All fuel lines should be specifically made for fuel and should be covered with rubber hose if passing through the drivers compartment. All cars must have a fuel system (and electrical system) shut-off switch that must be located within the drivers and safety crews reach and clearly marked “On” and “Off”.

10.3. Approved Fuel – Gasoline only no additives or blends

Section 11– Safety

11.1. Interior – All interior/upholstery and carpeting must be removed. Original dashboard may remain in place. No mirrors allowed. The interior of the car must be completely enclosed in respect to the engine compartment, track surface, tires, and fuel cell compartment. Complete steel floor pan must be used. Floor pan must resemble stock floor pan, and be located in stock location. Cockpitting can be built to height no higher than the driveshaft tunnel, with steel floor pan in place. All holes must be sealed, and the floor pan must run from front firewall to rear firewall and door-to-door. Firewall must be fabricated with minimum 20-gauge steel. Rear firewall, of 20 gauge steel, must be installed sealing fuel cell from drivers compartment.

11.2. Fire Extinguisher – All cars must have an on-board fire extinguisher in reach of the driver. On-board fire-suppression systems are recommended for additional security.

11.3. Drivers Seat – An aluminum high-backed racing seat is mandatory. It must be securely mounted to the frame or roll cage in at least six points, (four at seat bottom, and two at seat back). A padded right-side headrest is mandatory.

11.4. Driver Restraint/Padding – A (minimum) five-point harness, properly mounted to the cage is mandatory. Belts must be of 3” (inch) design equipped with a quick-release latch. Belts  must not be over 5 FIVE years old. All bars, including steering wheel and shaft, in reach of driver must be padded. A padded right-side headrest is mandatory.

11.5. Window Safety Nets – All cars must have an approved window net properly installed in the left front window opening. The net must be equipped with a quick-release latch. Right side sprint nets recommended.

11.6. Driver Attire:

            A. Full Body fire retardant suit is mandatory. Must be one or two piece racesuit.

            B. Approved racing shoes or steel toed boots mandatory. No nylon shoes permitted.

            C. Fire retardant gloves mandatory.

            D. Full-face helmet meeting SA2000 rating are mandatory. No open face helmets permitted. Eye protection is mandatory, goggles not acceptable.

            E. Neckbrace/collar, fire retardant under garments, and fire retardant socks are highly recommended.

            F. Head and Neck Restraints such as the “Hans” and “Hutchins” devices are highly recommendable.

11.7. Yield to Safety Crew – All competitors must yield to the safety/clean-up crew at all times. Failure to do so will result in penalty.

Section 12 – Miscellaneous
