Late Models Ready to do Battle in 76-Lap Shootout this Weekend at Adirondack
NEW BREMEN (NY) – Mother Nature has wreaked havoc on the Adirondack International Speedway this season. With rain plaguing three of the first seven events at the Lewis County oval, the Speedway is anticipating an Independence Day celebration this coming Saturday.
What better way to celebrate our nations independence than the forth running of the always exciting, “Spirit of ’76” 76-lap ASA Challenger Late Model Special. The extra-distance race flaunting an extra rich purse is sponsored by TJ Toyota of Potsdam and is schedule to begin at 6:30pm. Grandstands are scheduled to open at 4pm and admission for Adults is set at just $12. Kids can be admitted in for $5 and Children 9 and Under are always FREE.
As the ASA Challenger Late Models will take center stage, three support divisions will also take to the track in the likes of the True Stocks, Sport Compacts and the Light Trucks. While all four divisions have showed shear excitement on any given night, the excitement will continue as all drivers are twice as ready after an extra week of preparation.
Thus far in 2008, Tommy Cloce leads the ASA Challenger Late Model point standings with two wins to his credit. Otherwise known as “The Hammer” Cloce has four top-fives in four starts and is vying for his first career Track Championship. Right behind Cloce is three-time feature winner Lee Gill. Gill, sporting a dynamic body that has swirled pit conversations, just recently went two-for-two during this past Saturday’s Twin-25’s and will be back this week to go back to work. Former Track Champion Chris Ross sits tied with Bryant Trim for third in points while Jerry Dineen rounds out the top-five.
In the GotGoodCheese.com True Stocks a consistent Tom Markham sits on top of the heap with fellow driver Joe Miller just two points behind. Randy Widrick and Jason Dinzler sit in the third and fourth positions with three-time feature winner Mike Ramos in the fifth spot. With the competition level nearly at an all-time high, just 18 points separate Markham from Ramos in the drive to the championship.
Although low in numbers but exceptionally high in racing action, the D&D Powersports Sport Compacts has a rookie in Nate Plantz out front after recently picking up his first career feature victory. Behind Plantz is division frontrunners Scott Shafer, Tom Dubach, Rudy Widrick and Tim Dunn.
Sophomore sensation Cooter Beyer leads the points in the Westward Painting Company Light Trucks with two wins in four starts to his credit. Levi Kirkbride sets tied in the second position, striving for his first victory of 2008, with recent winner John Sullivan joining him in the brides’ maid position. Dave Keefer and Steve Ellis round out the front-five.
