New Bremen (NY) – The Adirondack International Speedway will roar to life this coming Saturday for the seventh consecutive season of competitive racing action in Lewis County. Serving as the only ASA-sanctioned facility in New York State, Adirondack will lead their 2008 season with a bang as the tracks headline division will be on track for an extra-distance event.
While the season is highlighted with the 7th Annual NASCAR Weekend in July, the Speedway will also point their attention to the 2nd Annual Renegade Nationals in October. But first, this coming Saturday’s Renegade Nationals Qualifier will serve in support to the October event.
All divisions will race for guaranteed starting positions for the Fall-time Renegade Nationals sponsored by TJ Toyota of Potsdam and Waite Toyota of Watertown. The weekend event that takes place on October 11th and 12th will showcase a 200-lap contest for the Late Models that will boast a $4,000-to-win payday.
This coming Saturday, May 17th all divisions will race a regular event with an exception to the 100-lap Late Model event. However, all divisions will be racing for a total of four guaranteed starting positions for their division’s event in the Renegade Fall Nationals. The positions will be dispersed to the top-four finishers in each division.
With the excitement having reached an all-time high, the ASA Challenger Late Models are looking to make record car counts in 2008. With that said, each support division has came into their own to keep car counts continuously rising over the course of the past two years. Calls from all over New York State and into Pennsylvania and Ohio have been coming in as Adirondack will be the first asphalt stock car track to open in New York State. Several competitors outside the area will be coming into the area to shake down their machines against the best of the best in their respected division. Some outsiders looking to come in and make a good showing are Pennsylvania’s Will Thomas, as well as David Regan, George Skora and Todd Hoddick. They will be ready to take on local stars John Papin, Tommy Cloce, Jason Herrington, Bryant Trim and Lee Gill. Several rookie drivers will be making their debut at the track as well. Teenage drivers Brandon Kidd of Syracuse and Sierra Lister of Edmeston will be making their debuts in the Late Models as well as former True Stock competitor Dylan Bancroft. For this weekends events, pit gates will open at 12pm and grandstand gates will do so at 3pm. Heat races are set to begin at 5:30pm.
All divisions will draw for their heat-race starting position upon entering the gate, and the feature events will be formed by “heads-up” start. The ASA Late Models will have a re-draw on the track during intermission to organize their top-12 starting positions for the 100-lap event.
